Behind The Seams: Park City Fashion Week 2025

Flashing Back to Park City Fashion Week 2025

For this installment of Behind The Seams, we’re taking a trip down memory lane. Let’s look back at January 2025, when we brought the world of Soul By Amé to the runway at Park City Fashion Week.

When we first started this brand, we promised that we would never just make clothes to put logos on fabric. For us, every textile is a canvas, and every collection is a vehicle to unapologetically tell African-American stories. Taking the runway in Park City wasn't just about showing off a Spring/Summer capsule; it was about injecting a fresh, diverse, and deeply cultural West Coast perspective into a region that rarely gets to see fashion through our lens.

We sat down with Marisa Lyn Bone, the Editor-in-Chief of Mountain West Style Magazine, to pull back the curtain on our creative process, our family roots, and what it really means to build a modern luxury brand from the ground up.

Clothes as Canvases: The Roots of the Design

If you’ve been rocking with us, you know that our design language pulls from the different corners of our lives. During the interview, we got to reflect on where that eye for style actually comes from.

  • The Sunday Fashion Shows: Growing up with a father who is a pastor and mother who was his first lady, every single Sunday morning was a lesson in sartorial elegance. We subconsciously absorbed the imagery of three-to-five-piece suits, matching hats, and coordinated heels. It taught us that dressing up is a statement of respect and self-expression.

  • Creole Heritage: Our mother’s roots as a Creole from New Orleans introduced us to the architectural and European design textures found in the French Quarter, elements we still weave into our luxury lines today.

  • Bridging the Worlds: Soul By Amé is the ultimate fusion of our individual journeys. Phillip brought his professional eye from his days working as a stylist at Nike, while Micah transitioned his sharp business acumen over to the brand after locking in his time playing college basketball in Maine.

The Anatomy of the Brand: Essence, Gardens, and Muse

The Park City runway gave the world a sneak peek into the three distinct labels we're building under the Soul umbrella: Essence, Gardens, and Muse.

"The zero zero is a very specific choice... I was born in '99 and Micah was born in 2001, so the year 2000 is the year between us. And Essence is the line that we work on the most together." — Phillip Petty

Our Essence line—which directly inspired the Essence Radio mixes you listen to—is our love letter to the late '90s and early 2000s hip-hop and R&B scene. We took those classic, baggy, oversized aesthetics inspired by icons like Aaliyah and Tupac and modernized them into premium streetwear designed to stand the test of time.

We’re incredibly grateful to the community and to the outlets like GQ, Vogue, and League Fits that have shared our vision. But this specific breakdown from Mountain West Style really got to the heart of our brotherhood and our creative synergy.
